I listen to Red Dirt Texas music.

 It's a mashup of country and rock and most of the artists are from Texas, Oklahoma, and West Louisiana. It's authentic. The artists and bands mostly write and produce their own music. That won't fly in corporate Nashville. They wouldn't have control.

I hate to say it but my entire list of favorite artists today is male-centric. Shouldn't be because I grew up on music from Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Brenda Lee, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Crystal Gayle, Janie Fricke, Reba McEntire, and the Judds, just to name a few.

Today, I listen to Whiskey Myers, Randy Rogers Band, Cody Jinks, Blackberry Smoke, Turnpike Troubadours, Robert Earl Keen, Roger Creager, Reckless Kelly, and Sturgill with a generous helping of old school country. Lots of Merle (first concert my daddy took me to in 1972), Waylon, Willie, Cash, Kris, Mac Davis, Bobby Bare, Don Williams, John Conlee, Charley Pride, and, of course, George Jones. I could go on and on.
